The past six months has seen a dramatic rise in the number of companies improving their corporate websites and wider digital presence, according to the latest Investis IQ Rankings, released today.

Averaged across all of the indices scored, there were advances in every area – but the real drivers of change were Mobile, where scores were up by nearly 30%, and in Social Media (up by over 17%). The increase in the use of Multimedia was also encouraging.

The number of companies in the FTSE 250 recording improvements in their IQ scores has doubled since Q2 2013 and nearly quadrupled for the Austrian ATX. However, there were real gains made across every index.

Average index scores also increased substantially compared to Q2 2013 when growth was negligible. Scores across the ATX were up by 10%; in the Russian RTSI by 6% and in the FTSE 250 by 4%. Growth in the Swiss SMI 20 was more modest at 3% but the index started from a higher base. The MDAX saw the least improvement – but even here a 2% rise in overall scores was recorded.

The growing popularity of responsive web design (the ability of a website to flex to any size screen) proved a major factor in this growth. The number of companies with a responsive website has increased by 62% in the past six months.

Responding to the latest rankings, Marcus Fergusson, Head of Research at Investis, said:

“Mobile and responsive web design in particular were the main areas of growth throughout 2013. However, we have also witnessed a pronounced and encouraging increase in the number of companies investing in their overall digital corporate communications in the past half year. This trend appears to be following the global economic recovery – and looks set to continue throughout 2014.”

We score each index once every six months: this quarter Investis scored the FTSE250, MDAX, ATX 20, SMI 20, and the RTSI. For more information on the IQ benchmarking service, please contact Marcus Fergusson on, call +44 (0) 20 7038 9000 or visit
